Stetig Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Stetig ("we", "us", "the app") collects from you, how we use it, and the choices you have. Stetig is a social habit-tracking app currently in beta testing.

1. Who we are

Stetig is a personal project by Logan Roth. The app helps small groups of people build habits together through accountability "groups."

We are not a large company. The app is currently distributed only via TestFlight (iOS) and EAS internal builds (Android) to a small group of beta testers.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide directly

Account details: name, email address, and authentication provider (Google, Apple, or email/password) when you sign up.
Profile information: optional username, profile picture, timezone, and tags you mark as interests.
Habit data: habits you create, including the action, target value, frequency, and any notes.
Groups: groups you create or join, including their name, description, tags, optional city-level location, and member list.
Check-ins: each habit check-in, including completion status, optional value, optional emoji, optional note, and an optional photo if your group requires proof.
Social interactions: emoji reactions to check-ins, help requests, nudges sent to other members, friend requests, and any users you block.

Information collected automatically

Device timezone, used to align check-ins with your local day.
Sign-in tokens issued by Google or Apple to keep you logged in.
Crash and error reports (Sentry) — not currently active during beta; will be enabled later with this notice updated.
Apple Health data (iOS, optional) — read-only, and only for habits you explicitly link to Apple Health. See the Apple Health section below.
Duolingo profile data (optional) — read-only public-profile data, and only for habits you explicitly connect to Duolingo. See the Duolingo section below.

We do not collect: precise location (GPS), advertising identifiers, contacts, microphone or audio data, or browsing history. We do not access Apple Health unless you explicitly link a habit to it, and we do not query Duolingo unless you connect a habit to it (see below).

Apple Health (iOS — optional, read-only)

On iPhone you can optionally link a habit to Apple Health so it checks itself in automatically. This is entirely opt-in, per habit, and off until you link it.

What we read. Only the metric you link a habit to — for example workouts of a chosen type, walking/running distance, steps, active energy, exercise minutes, or mindful sessions. We request read-only access and never write to Apple Health.
On-device. We read this data on your device to calculate that habit's progress. We do not store raw Apple Health records on our servers.
What is stored. Only the resulting check-in — the same number or completion a manual check-in would create (e.g. "8 km" or "done"). It is stored and shared exactly like any other check-in, including with members of groups the habit belongs to.
Not for advertising. We never use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, never share it with data brokers, and never use it to train machine-learning models.
Your control. Unlink a habit at any time in the app, or revoke access entirely in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Stetig. Apple Health is never accessed on Android or the web.

Duolingo (optional, read-only)

You can optionally connect a habit to Duolingo so it checks itself in when your Duolingo activity advances. This is entirely opt-in and per habit.

What we store. The Duolingo username you enter, saved on that habit so we know whose profile to read. You can remove it by deleting the habit.
What we read. Only your public Duolingo profile (streak and XP), via Duolingo's public profile endpoint. We never receive or ask for your Duolingo password, and we can only read your profile while it is public (Duolingo → Settings → Privacy). This is an unofficial endpoint, used on a best-effort basis; if it's unavailable, the habit simply falls back to manual check-ins.
What is stored as a result. Only the resulting check-in — the same number or completion a manual check-in would create. It is stored and shared exactly like any other check-in, including with members of groups the habit belongs to.
Not for advertising. We never use Duolingo data for advertising or marketing, never share it with data brokers, and never use it to train machine-learning models.
Your control. Delete the connected habit at any time to stop reading your profile and remove the stored username. Making your Duolingo profile private also stops the sync.

3. How we use your information

We use your information only to operate the app:

Authenticate you and keep you signed in.
Show your habits, groups, check-ins, and progress to you.
Share your check-ins, profile, and reactions with other active members of groups you have joined.
Calculate individual and group streaks.
Deliver help requests and nudges between group members.
Diagnose bugs and crashes (when crash reporting is active).

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train machine-learning models.

4. Who can see your information

Other members of groups you join can see your name, profile picture, username (if set), and any check-ins, reactions, notes, or proof photos you submit within that group.
The group owner can see all of the above and approve or reject your habit matches when you request to join.
Members who leave a group retain access to historical check-ins they could already see while active; they do not gain access to new check-ins after leaving.
Public groups can be discovered by any signed-in user, including the group name, tags, and member count.

We do not share your information with anyone outside the app except for the third-party services listed below.

5. Third-party services we use

Stetig uses the following providers to operate. Each has its own privacy policy:

Google Firebase / Google Cloud Platform — hosts authentication, the Firestore database, and the Cloud Storage bucket where photos and other app data are stored. Data is stored in Google's US multi-region (nam5). Google Cloud Privacy Policy
Google Sign-In — used if you choose to sign in with Google.
Apple Sign-In — used if you choose to sign in with Apple (will be enabled in a future build).
Expo / EAS — used to build and deliver the app.
Duolingo — queried (read-only, public profile) only for habits you explicitly connect to Duolingo. Duolingo Privacy Policy
Sentry — will be used for crash and error reporting in a future build, with this policy updated at that time.

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

6. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in Google Firebase's US multi-region database (nam5). Access is restricted by Firestore Security Rules: only you, and other active members of groups you've joined, can read your check-ins; only you can modify your own habits and account.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your user record, habits, check-ins, and group memberships from the database. Some content may persist briefly in encrypted backups before being overwritten in Google's normal rotation.

8. Your rights

You can:

Access the data we hold about you — most of it is visible inside the app; for anything else, email us.
Correct your profile information directly in the app.
Delete your account and associated data by emailing us at the address above.
Export your data by request.
Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what we collect and the right to deletion. We do not sell personal information.

9. Children

Stetig is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please email us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We rely on Google Cloud's security infrastructure (encryption at rest and in transit) plus Firestore Security Rules to control access to your data. No system is perfectly secure; if you have reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. The "Effective date" above will be updated when changes are made. For material changes (e.g. new categories of data collected, new third-party services), we will notify beta users via TestFlight release notes or email.
